Many horses suffer from osteoarthritis, lameness, tendon or ligament problems, or poorly healing wounds. RegMed offers an innovative way to activate your patient’s own stem cells and their regenerative powers and support healing processes in a natural way.
Stem cells: The pluripotent autologous stem cells from the stromal vascular fraction can develop into almost all types of tissue, such as cartilage, ligament, and muscle tissue. Our novel method is based on this long-standing scientific knowledge, which enables the cell-friendly, rapid, and sterile concentration of stem cells. RegMed can obtain a high concentration of the body’s own stem cells (ADSC) in a natural habitat using purely fluid mechanics and make them available to you within a few minutes for treatment of the affected region. The reason for using stem cells from adipose tissue instead of bone marrow is that the concentration of stem cells in adipose tissue is up to 200 times higher.
The minimally invasive treatment with RegMed uses the horse’s own stem cells to regenerate damaged tissue – without the use of foreign cells of unknown origin or immunological risks.
To do this, the horse is sedated and given a local anesthetic. The extraction site is cleaned and disinfected. A small incision in the skin is required to insert the harvester cannula. The stem cells are extracted from the fat deposit in the croup using the harvester cannula and saline solution warmed to body temperature.
This mixture is prepared sterile at the point of care by our mobile machine and made available to you for injection or storage within a few minutes. Wound aftercare is limited to covering the incision and regular visual inspection.
The actual cell processing technology takes place inside a special silicone tube and a biodegradable multi-stage filter system developed by us. The entire system is sterile and easy to use.
In contrast to existing products for stem cell treatment in horses, our concept provides you with gently and sterilely processed stem cells that continue to live in their natural habitat of messenger substances, cells, etc. without any immune risk.
The specific treatment success in a horse depends on a variety of influencing factors:
- Biological age of the patient
- Quality and quantity of the cells removed or re-injected
- Concentration of stem cells
- Preservation of the habitat
- Genetic predisposition and previous damage to the patient
Therefore, the expected success of treatment should always be based on statistical statements, but not in the sense of a “guarantee” for a specific horse. However, a large number of medical studies that have already been successfully conducted (both in human medicine and in veterinary medicine) justify our treatment approach.
The recovery time is comparable to that of treatments that only alleviate the symptoms.
The cost of stem cell treatment using our concept is in line with the usual range for comparable treatments.

General treatment procedure:
Step 1
Whether on-site or at a veterinary clinic: The required materials are warmed to 39 °C in the RegMed heat bag 8 hours prior to treatment. At the start of the procedure, the patient receives standard sedation.
Step 2
To ensure maximum safety, the tail region is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. This is performed in accordance with standard veterinary procedures (SOPs).
Step 3
Following the application of local anesthesia to the croup region, a minimal skin incision is made.
Step 4
Preparation for adipose tissue harvesting is carried out using the sterile components provided by us.
Step 5
Heated saline solution is alternately injected via the harvester cannula, and adipose tissue, including the stromal vascular fraction (SVF), is aspirated. The harvested biological material (100 ml in total) is transferred into a storage syringe.
Step 6
The storage syringe is inserted into our mobile system. The material flow (saline solution, biological material) is controlled fully automatically. Cell processing is completed in less than five minutes.
Step 7
Within a maximum of five minutes, the stem cell concentrate (approx. 7 ml) can be removed from the filter housing. It is then ready for direct injection into the patient or can be stored appropriately.
Step 8
While the patient recovers from sedation in the stall and the stem cells initiate the regeneration process, the system is immediately ready for reuse. Theoretically, the next treatment can begin right away.
